Canon India today announced the launch of Canon EOS M50, its latest mirrorless camera which creates still and video content specifically catered to suit the social media needs.
“India is an evolving market and so are the demands and expectations of the customers. EOS M50 strengthens our commitment to the mirrorless segment. This product is a result of our ‘consumer-first’ approach,” Kazutada Kobayashi, President  & CEO, Canon India, told reporters in New Delhi.

First unveiled in February, the Canon EOS M50 packs in a 24.1-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with Canon’s new DIGIC 8 image processor. For an enhanced image quality. Equipped with 4K movie shooting ability and an improved dual pixel CMOS AF, it comes with precision focusing for an improved low light photography. With the touch & drag AF, users will also be able to select and move the AF frame via the touch panel while looking through the built-in 2.36 million dot electronic viewfinder (EVF).

The camera also features a built-in OLED electronic viewfinder (EVF) with touch-and-drag autofocus system. The EOS M50 also features Dual Pixel CMOS AF that’s said to cover a larger surface area with 143 autofocus points. ISO sensitivity goes up to 51200. With a continuous shooting speed of approximately 10fps in one shot AF and 7.4fps in Servo AF, constantly moving subjects can be captured with precision. It also has built-in five-axis image stabilisation for shake reduction.
The camera can capture 4K video at 25 fps and also features a 4K Frame Grab function that allows for high-resolution images to be extracted from the captured footage.

The major drawback to the main new feature is that, 4K comes with a 1.6X crop, on top of the existing 1.6X APS-C crop factor making the sensor effectively smaller (2.56 X total). Also, the phase-detection Dual Pixel AF doesn’t work in 4K; its use is limited to 1080p video and below. Instead, 4K is stuck with contrast-detection AF. The M50 also lacks in-body optical stabilization, relying on lens and digital stabilization instead.

In addition, the built-in Bluetooth low energy technology maintains a constant connection to a compatible smart device at low power consumption, allowing users to view images and start remote capture from the camera even when it is in auto power off mode. Users can also control image playback and slide-show when the EOS M50 is connected to a TV or projector via smart devices.

EOS M50 is available with a single kit option, the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens, at a price of ₹61,995 inclusive of all taxes.
It is expected to be available soon on major e-commerce sites as well as from offline Canon authorized dealers.
