It has been clear for some time that the Chinese government wants to be less dependent on foreign chip production. For example, Tianshu Zhixin is working on the country’s first 7nm GPU which should be announced by Q3 of 2021.
Meanwhile, another Chinese company has revealed more information about its upcoming graphics cards. At an investor meeting, Changsha Jingjia Microelectronics Co., Ltd. namely reported that the performance of the JM9231 and JM9271 look good and expects these GPUs in Q3 2021.
Where the JM9231 is compared to the GTX 1050, the higher segmented JM9271 should improve the performance of the GTX 1080 or Vega 64.

These cards have some remarkable features including the use of a 28nm process. This increases power consumption: where the JM9270 leans towards the GTX 1080 in terms of efficiency, the JM9231 requires twice as much punch compared to the GTX 1050. Although Jiingjia Micro will not excel in power consumption domestic production will probably help the company to offer attractive prices compared to Nvidia and AMD.
The manufacturer did not comment on the rumours that the JM9271 will match the performance level of the GTX 1080 Ti; they do not want to make any special claims. We expect to receive more information around the end of the year. It is likely that these two new chips will only end up in military-grade devices; support for APIs like DirectX 12 and Vulkan is absent.
