Honor 9N with Dual Camera and Kirin 659 launched in India

Huawei sub-brand Honor launched honor 9N at an event in India. Earlier the smartphone was launched in China called honor 9i. Other than the name change, every aspect of this device is same as the Chinese variant except for the fact that this device is entirely manufactured in this country. This is an inexpensive model in a fashionable now frameless design with a cutout in the style of the iPhone X, a dual camera and an unlock function on the face.

The smartphone is equipped with a 5.84-inch display with a Full HD + (2280 x 1080 pixels) resolution, 2.5D curved glass and a 19:9 aspect ratio display.

Under the hood, the device is powered by an Octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC (4*2.36 GHz + 4*1.7 GHz), coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, depending on the variant. The GPU is Mali T830-MP2. There are 3 storage option available which include (3+32GB), (4+64GB) and (4+128GB).

In terms of optics the phone features, a Dual 13 + 2 MP camera with PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and bokeh mode. The front 16 MP front camera comes with 3D beauty Effect. The phone supports FHD (1920*1080) recording on both the front and rear camera.

 

The device has a non-removable Li-Ion 3,000mAh battery. On the software front, the smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo operating system running on EMUI 8.0.

Other features include, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b / g / n), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS + GLONASS, FM-radio, there is a 3.5-mm headphone jack. The phone comes with a hybrid dual SIM slot, which can only use microSD card by utilising the second SIM slot.

The phone also features a Ride Mode, which ensures the safety of riders by keeping them away from unwanted distractions on their phones while driving. There is also a Party Mode, which enables users to connect 6 smartphones with 1 master device to play in-sync music.

The dimension of the smartphone are 149.2mm × 71.8 mm × 7.7 mm and weighs around 152gm.

One of the most disappointing thing was that the phone does not support the 3G/4G Video Calling.

The Honor 9N will get Huawei’s GPU Turbo via an OTA update in the near future. GPU Turbo is a software update said to improve graphics processing efficiency by 60% while reducing the SoC (System on Chip) energy consumption by 30%, exceeding the limits of the balance between smartphone performance and energy consumption. Huawei also says that even if its device doesn’t support High Dynamic Range (HDR), it will still be able to deliver “outstanding” graphics quality with GPU Turbo tech.

The Honor 9N (2018) price in India has been set at  11,999 for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant, ₹ 13,999 for the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant, and  17,999 for the 4GB RAM/ 128GB storage variant. The smartphone will go on sale from 12 pm IST on July 31 via Flipkart and the HiHonorStore. It will be made available in Lavender Purple, Robin Egg Blue, Midnight Black, Sapphire Blue. Launch offers include a Reliance Jio cashback offer, with  2,200 cashback, 100GB additional data, and  1,200 Myntra voucher.
