A number of Instagram accounts of world celebrities suddenly lost followers in large numbers. The event was experienced by Ariana Grande’s Instagram account which has the third largest followers in the world. The number of followers of the pop singer decreased significantly from 145 million to 142 million. The same thing happened to the Instagram account of Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, and several Indian celebrities.
Apparently, the disappearance of the number of Instagram followers also happened to other users. Instagram acknowledges that there are bugs that cause this problem to occur globally. The bug appeared after Instagram installed machine learning to comb bot accounts, aka fake accounts, which often send spam.
But followers who disappeared suddenly in large numbers are believed to be caused by the Instagram bug. It is one of the results of the machine learning performance. Instagram said it would investigate this bug further. Through its official Twitter, Instagram says that this problem will be resolved at 9 AM PST.
“We understand that this problem is frustrating, our team is working hard to make it normal again,” wrote Instagram. Last November, Instagram plans to clean up fake accounts. Many of these accounts are troubled because they often send spam messages, likes, comments, and use third-party applications to increase the number of followers.
