The titanium case is said to be lighter and more stable
Apple began the presentation of the new Pro models with the announcement that both devices are now in a finely crafted titanium case, which is narrower and lighter than before with the same screen size. According to Apple, the company relies on highly elaborate processing methods, which will be available in four rather dark colours.
The new housing material is only used on the outside, while an aluminium frame is used on the inside. As a result, the new devices should be significantly lighter and yet highly stable. The iPhone 15 Pro Max is about just under 20 grams lighter than its predecessor.
The iPhone 15 Pro, like the cheaper iPhone 15, has a 6.1-inch (about 15 cm) display, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max, like the iPhone 15 Plus, has a 6.7-inch panel. The displays themselves, meanwhile, have practically not changed. Resolution and maximum brightness remain identical so that a maximum of 1600 (HDR) or 2000 candelas is possible again in outdoor mode.
iPhone 15 Pro Max now with 5x optical magnification
Although the cameras have some minor improvements, they are expected to have a more significant impact than you might anticipate. The primary camera still has a 48-megapixel resolution, and it uses optical image stabilization via sensor shift.
Apple still specifies the maximum aperture size as F/1.78. Even otherwise, the resolution and aperture sizes of the cameras remain identical at first glance.
The ultra-wide-angle camera and zoom camera each offer 12-megapixel resolution and aperture sizes of up to F/2.2 and F/2.8, respectively. However, Apple has tweaked the optics, so that the telephoto camera now offers up to five times optical magnification.
However, this is withheld from the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max, so nothing changes in this regard with the iPhone 15 Pro. In addition, log video recording and the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES) are now supported.
The front cameras also remain unchanged, so the sensors there again work with 12 megapixels and an F/1.9 aperture. After all, Apple uses the distance data generated during the recordings to automatically switch to portrait mode or to collect the necessary depth information.

Apple A17 Pro SoC first SoC with a 3nm structure width
Another new addition to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is the Apple A17 Pro Bionic SoC. The new chip is manufactured for the first time on a 3-nanometer scale and is supposed to offer a performance increase of around 10 per cent for the CPU, which again has six cores. In addition, a neural processing engine twice as powerful is said to be on board.
As before, two high-performance and four energy-saving cores are combined, while the graphics unit of the new chip now has six cores and is also supposed to offer 20 per cent more performance.
Apple speaks of a complete overhaul and now even wants to offer ray tracing with its mobile graphics unit, which should of course be noticeable in games in an impressive way.
Incidentally, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and its smaller sister model also get USB Type-C ports, which can also be used for various external devices thanks to USB 3 support. Among other things, Apple showed during the presentation that the devices can also write directly to external storage media when recording movies, as speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second are supported.
