The OnePlus Nord 2 is coming and more and more details about the affordable smartphone are leaking out. According to many the OnePlus Nord was labelled as one of the best Android smartphones of 2020. As announced the OnePlus Nord 2 launch date in India is 22 July.
The expectations of the Nord 2 are therefore high. In this article, you can read what we already know about the smartphone.
1. Recognizable name and design
OnePlus has already confirmed the name of the Nord 2. Nothing is officially known about the design yet, but leaked marketing images and renders give a good idea of the as-yet-unannounced smartphone.
The pictures show that the Nord 2 looks a lot like its predecessor, with subtle differences. For example, the device has ‘only’ three cameras on the back, where the Nord has four. There is also only one selfie camera.
The bezels around the Nord 2’s screen have become narrower, giving the smartphone a more modern look. On these OnePlus Nord 2 renders you can see the device from all sides including the back.
2. MediaTek Dimensity 1200 Processor and Sony IMX 766
A notable choice is a processor in the Nord 2. OnePlus has already confirmed that the smartphone runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chip. This means that the Nord 2 will be the first OnePlus smartphone not to use a Qualcomm processor. This ends the exclusive seven-year partnership.
For an average user, this is not an issue because the Dimensity 1200 is a powerful chip and has comparable performance to a Qualcomm 870 processor. We are also expecting more 5G band support with Nord 2.

3. OLED screen with 90Hz and HDR
OnePlus has already announced the display specs. For example, the manufacturer indicates that the Nord 2 has a 6.43-inch screen with HDR10 + certification. That HDR certification means that the screen has greater contrast and brightness, making images look more beautiful.
It has also been announced that the Nord 2 uses an OLED screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz.
More and more midrange smartphones have a 120Hz display. For example, Xiaomi and Realme sell competitively priced devices with a smoother screen. OnePlus – which has been putting 120Hz screens in its expensive smartphones for a year – is not following this example yet.
4. 65W Fast Charging
There is a good chance that the OnePlus Nord 2 can charge 65 Watts via the USB-c cable. That would be significantly faster than the original Nord (30 Watts) and also faster than most competing smartphones.
The support for 65 Watt fast charging is obvious because all more expensive OnePlus devices from last year can do this. Affordable models like the OnePlus Nord N10 5G charge 30 Watts, so it would make sense for OnePlus to upgrade its latest mid-ranger.
The more powerful charger means that the battery is charged faster. For example, the OnePlus 8T (65 Watt) has just over thirty minutes to fully charge. The Nord N10 5G with an almost as large battery but a 30 Watt charger takes more than seventy minutes.
5. OnePlus Nord 2 Launch on July 22
Finally, the announcement of the OnePlus Nord 2. The manufacturer has already indicated that the Nord 2 presentation will take place on July 22 through an online event. This event starts at 4:00 PM Dutch time.
It is likely that the Nord 2 will be about the same price as its predecessor.
