Qualcomm Technologies has unveiled the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G Mobile Platform, the first 4 Series mobile platform to support 5G. According to the manufacturer, the Snapdragon 480 “will continue to drive the further adoption of 5G, giving users access to truly global 5G connectivity and unrivalled performance for increased productivity and entertainment.”
The advantages of Snapdragon 480 include the radio frequency subsystem of the Snapdragon X51 5G modem, which supports mmWave and 5G in the 6 GHz band; offline (SA) and non-offline (NSA) 5G modes; time division duplex (TDD), frequency division duplex (FDD) and dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS). Thanks to Qualcomm FastConnect 6200, the Snapdragon 480 also supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, and advanced wireless audio capabilities.

The 8nm platform includes a Qualcomm Kryo 460 processor up to 2.0GHz with Qualcomm Adreno 619 GPU and a Qualcomm Hexagon 686 digital signal processor. The Qualcomm Spectra 345 Image Processor is the first ISP in the 4 Series to support three-sensor input simultaneously.
Also, there is support for an FHD + display with 120Hz of refresh rate. Qualcomm aptX audio codec and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ fast charging technology is also supported. (the latter is implemented for the first time in Series 4).
